In Pictures: The Black Lives Matter Protest In Lower Manhattan
On June 2, civil-rights protests came to Lower Manhattan. Thousands of New Yorkers congregated in Foley Square to rally in support of racial equality and justice following the death of Minneapolis resident George Floyd. Across the city, protesters marched to landmarks including the Stonewall Inn, Barclay Center and Gracie Mansion.
Photographer @casa_rodrigues_ captured powerful images of Foley Square in a poignant series shared on Instagram. “It was peaceful,” she explained to the Downtown Alliance, “and you could tell people were moved and wanted to convey a message.”
Take a look at what she saw and learn more about how to get involved with the programs at New York Cares to better your community.
