Finally, A Golf League You Can Join Without Leaving Lower Manhattan
Indoor golf is an alluring proposition in the dog days of summer: all the joys of a smooth drive from the “fairway” while drinking with friends — and none of the walking in the heat, or even having to leave Manhattan.
Five Iron Golf (22 Stone Street), is now accepting applications for its Fall season. It’s your chance to flex your club skills in an air-conditioned room, and still make it back in time for dinner. The facility uses lots of technology to capture your swing, hit power and launch angle to give you a feeling of really being on the greens at a number of virtual courses, without straying far from a couch and the bar.
The new season involves four-player teams competing on Monday and Tuesday nights. You can sign up with a team or as a free agent, and get seven weeks of golf on rotating courses and formats. Prizes include gift cards, lesson packs and a free open-bar event.
Even if you don’t want to join a league, you can pop by for free golf (normally $50-$65 an hour) on Thirsty Thursdays from 9 p.m. to close. Summer Sundays get you half-price play all day. And if you’re good enough and you win the hole-in-one jackpot, you could walk away with hundreds of dollars, no golf cart required. Book a time here.
