Kick-Off The Season Of Giving At LM’s South Street Seaport
Mark your calendars and open your hearts – November 29th is “Giving Tuesday.”
The Tuesday after Thanksgiving is the beginning of the holiday giving season, a day of philanthropy all around the world. Here in Lower Manhattan, “Giving Tuesday” is being celebrated at two special events.
The 33rd annual tree lighting ceremony at the South Street Seaport will be held in conjunction with “Giving Tuesday.” The event — which is sponsored by the Hallmark Channel and which takes place at 6:30 P.M. on Fulton Street between Water and South Streets — will also include live performances by Vy Higginsen’s Gospel Choir of Harlem and Grace VanderWall (who won the 2016 season of America’s Got Talent). In honor of the global day of philanthropy, the Howard Hughes Corporation will make a donation to the Peck Slip School music program.
A few blocks away, outside the New York Stock Exchange from 12-4 P.M, Johnson & Johnson is holding an outdoor activation to benefit Save the Children. Passersby will be encouraged to make “a meaningful impact” on the lives of children around the world; Johnson & Johnson will match up to $450,000 of donated gifts. The company’s “Donate a Photo” program also enables you to help children by simply taking a photo and donating it to Save the Children.
Make November 29th more than a typical Tuesday!
