From Luxe Penthouses to Affordable Stays, Here Are Lower Manhattan Hotels for Every Budget

Lower Manhattan is where you’ll find the New York City you’ve imagined, whether it’s your first time here or you’re a longtime local. The neighborhood brings together New York’s classic high-octane hustle-and-bustle with a certain serenity that can be hard to find elsewhere in the city. Throw yourself into the thick of it by waking up downtown in one of our many hotels and grabbing a morning coffee with the folks who help make the world churn.

Your day can continue with a stroll though some of the city’s most historic landmarks like the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, the South Street Seaport Museum and the New York Stock Exchange, all of which are located within a 15-minute walk. You’re also not far from must-see attractions like the Statue of Liberty and Governors Island, which are accessible via ferry. Once you’ve had your fill of history and boat rides, turn your attention to the arts with a visit to Mercer Labs, Museum of Art and Technology and take in a show at the Perelman Performing Arts Center. Come evening, the frenetic energy of the neighborhood shifts, and Lower Manhattan becomes yours. You’ll want to head to a rooftop bar or restaurant to appreciate the sweeping, cinematic views of the city, preferably with a beverage in hand.

If you’re looking to venture further afield, good news: You can get anywhere in 20 minutes when you’re based in Lower Manhattan. The neighborhood is more centrally located than Brooklyn, but isn’t nearly as crowded as, say, Times Square. If you’re ready to book your stay in Lower Manhattan, check out our hotel recommendations for every price point below.

Luxury

The recently-opened Warren Street Hotel (86 Warren St.) is the top tier of luxury, especially if you love bold design and lush nature-filled terraces looking out over the skyline. Each of the hotel’s 69 rooms is individually designed by hotel group co-founder and renowned interior designer Kit Kemp. You can read more about what this hotel has to offer here

The Wall Street Hotel New York City (88 Wall St.) is another luxurious option for travelers who want to enjoy a calming oasis amid the exciting atmosphere of Lower Manhattan. Here, you’ll find timeless decor that nods to the rich history of the beaux-arts building that went up more than 100 years ago. You’ll also find plenty of modern amenities, like heated bathroom floors and Bang & Olufsen Bluetooth speakers. You can read more about what this hotel has to offer here.

There’s really only one way to describe the Beekman, a Thompson Hotel, by Hyatt (123 Nassau St.): jaw-dropping. Are we referring to the food at Temple Bar, overseen by head chef Tom Colicchio? The nine-story atrium lined with wrought iron balustrades? The penthouses that are actually turrets? Yes, to all of it. You can read more about what this hotel has to offer here.

Other luxury options: Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown, Conrad New York Downtown, Mint House at 70 Pine

If you never really stopped pining for Don Draper’s NYC apartment, you’ll find much to love at Gild Hall, a Thompson Hotel, by Hyatt (15 Gold St.). The design is mid-century modern, with custom leather headboards and streamlined furniture in every room. Did we mention each one has a well stocked mini-bar? Draper would definitely approve.

Hotel Indigo NYC Financial District, an IHG Hotel (50 Trinity Pl.) is steeped in history, with views of the iconic Trinity Church just outside your window. The light-filled rooms are effortlessly chic, with crisp white linens and touches of bright color here and there. This hotel is also pet-friendly, so Fido can take on the big city by your side.

If you’re someone who likes to “live like a local” when they’re traveling, you’ll want to grab a room at Placemakr (110 Wall St.). The apartment-style hotel rooms have kitchens or kitchenettes and thoughtfully designed workspaces. Venture out of your room and you’ll find other winsome amenities, like on-site laundry facilities, a rooftop terrace and a private lounge. Placemakr also offers rooms designed for up to eight occupants, so this might be your best bet if you’re traveling with a group.

Other moderately priced options: New York Marriott Downtown, AC Hotel by Marriott New York Downtown, Hotel Indigo NYC Downtown – Wall Street, an IHG Hotel, Residence Inn by Marriott New York Downtown Manhattan/World Trade Center Area

The hotel offers comfortable rooms and a free full American and Continental breakfast, as well as grab-n-go options.

Hilton Garden Inn NYC Financial Center/Manhattan Downtown (6 Water St.) offers everything a traveler might need.
