What Time Is It? That’s Right. It’s Shred-a-Thon and Clothing Drop-Off Time.
The hour is nigh to once again round up your old wardrobe and unwanted documents that are collecting dust and bring them over to Fulton Street (between Ryders Alley and Cliff Street) for the Downtown Alliance’s shred-a-thon and textile recycling event. On Saturday, October 1, a mobile shredding truck will securely destroy and recycle all your sensitive documents, tax receipts, junk mail and old bills (staples and paperclips are okay). Shredding hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, or until the truck is full. Please limit to 10 bags/boxes per person.
Likewise you can bring freshly-laundered clothing, accessories and textiles for recycling, courtesy of Wearable Collections. Accepted items include not only clothing, but also shoes, belts, handbags, hats, as well as household linens (curtains, sheets, towels). Please leave carpeting, rugs, bath mats, comforters, pillows, large luggage, fabric or scraps of any kind, including pre-recycled insulation materials, at home. You can double-check what is accepted here.
For other items you’re looking to get rid of (electronics, home appliances, VHS copies of Hello Again with Shelley Long), use the Department of Sanitation’s handy How to Get Rid of… tool to find out where to dispose of these items properly.
